Del Norte County Supervisor Roger Gitlin announces  Pelican Bay State Prison , Crescent City will be recognized  at the California State Association of Counties  Legislative Conference in Sacramento., April 24-25.  Secretary of Corrections Ralph  Diaz will appear on a panel with PBSP Warden James Robertson and Supervisor Gitlin at the Administration of Justice  Policy Committee addressing supervisors from the 58 California Counties on the recent re-implementation of the long dormant Off-Reservation  Inmate Fire crews who remove trash from the 3.5 mile Freeway median along the Highway 101, north of Crescent City. Only State employees are permitted access to the median.

The Panel will also announce additional expansion of the inmate crews program  to address other littered areas along the Cal Trans Right-of-Way, in Del Norte County.

Congratulations Roger for thinking out of the box for implementing a program for inmate crews to remove trash from Freeway medians .It certainly is appreciated by the people who live in Crescent City and it might help the inmates gain appreciation of helping the Communities that they are incarcerated in!
