This from Senator Mike McGuire: “For decades, the residents of Del Norte and Humboldt counties have been in search of a long-term fix for Highway 101’s Last Chance Grade as it continues to slide toward the Pacific. With the partnership of the federal, state and local governments, a long-term solution is closer than ever.”
“We hope you can join us, along with Congressman Jared Huffman and Assemblymember Jim Wood, on Thursday, November 19 at 6:30pm for a comprehensive update on the Last Chance Grade Improvement Project.”
“We’re bringing together the experts to take a deep dive into the project details, including a recap of how we got here today, a project timeline and what to expect over the next 24 months.”
On Thursday, November 19, 2020 starting at 6:30 pm these are the politicians that will be involved:
Congressman Jared Huffman, Senator Mike McGuire, Assemblymember Jim Wood, Del Norte County Supervisors Gerry Hemmingsen and Bob Berkowitz, Crescent City Mayor Blake Inscore and representatives from Caltrans, California State Park, National State Parks, and the Federal Highway Administration.
You can join on the Phone or on Zoom, whichever is more convenient for you.
“How to attend: RSVP today by clicking here!” (Note by Editor: I didn’t see any link to click on.) “After you RSVP, we’ll email your custom Zoom link and phone number within 24 hours of the event. The Forum will be offered in both English and Spanish.”
Senator McGuire who has a pathetically bad voting record starting with SB 54 (sanctuary state), and AB 2345 which would give developers ridiculous bonuses, and take away single family zoning in unincorporated areas. McGuire in fact supported all 9 of the bills that were targeted by the Nix the 9 campaign, and fortunately only two made their way to the governor.
From Nix the 9: These bills threaten single-family neighborhoods and increase density while diminishing local control and environmental protections. They assure concessions to developers, but without increasing the supply of affordable housing.
What could possibly be new and different about Last Chance Grade? The possibility that they will have an alternate route done before most of us are dead? Or the fact that they’ll continue to spend millions and millions of dollars (taxpayer’s dollars) doing test after test and study after study?
As I recall, the first time I attended their meeting was in 2018 and wrote about it on July 21, 2018 titled “The latest dog and pony show: Last Chance Grade.”
Then there was this in 2019, “$40 million to finalize environmental impact report for Last Chance Grade requested by McGuire, Wood, Huffman and Caltrans.”
I admit I have a problem with Congressman Jared Huffman. He’s a Democrat that didn’t attend the inauguration of our 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump. I thought that was completely disrespectful. Now, Joe Biden, y’know the guy running against Trump for President, is saying things like we’re got to work together which is supposed to mean Democrats and Republicans. And, you know what. I don’t believe him for a minute because his fellow Democrats have done everything short of a military coup to make Trump’s life as President a living hell.
So, for all you out there interested in attending their meeting on November 19th, let me know if you learn any new and useful. I won’t be attending.
