FPC Federal Alert <actions@firearmspolicy.org>  – October 30, 2021

The 117th Congress is at it again.  Just this past week another bill was introduced that would target those working in the firearms industry.  Of course, this is not surprising given the anti-gun leanings of the current House of Representatives.  hey have been hitting brick wall after brick wall on their gun control agenda though, so we need our supporters to reach out and help make this just the latest failure for the tyrants on Capitol Hill.

Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO), along with 19 co-sponsors, introduced U.S. House Bill 5678 in an effort to expand the government’s oversight over the firearms industry. According to Rep. Crow, HB 5678, also known as the Firearm Retailer Code of Conduct Act, “is very simple. It includes commonsense stuff, and I’m happy to join with organizations like Brady, Everytown, March For Our Lives, and Giffords in offering these important reforms.” What an all-star class of supporters Rep. Crow has for his legislation! With backers like that, it is very easy to see why gun-rights advocates are mobilizing against the bill.

If passed, the Firearm Retailer Code of Conduct Act would, in part, require gun dealers and their employees to undergo training every two years to identify fraudulent or potentially unlawful firearms purchases, mandate retailers’ posting of notices indicating the signs of fraudulent or potentially unlawful firearms purchases (along with contact information to report potential unlawful purchases), and require that federally licensed firearms dealers maintain business and liability insurance throughout the life of the business.
