| Today, Congresswoman Lauren Boebert was selected to serve on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. Congresswoman Lauren Boebert stated, “I am excited to get to work defending the individual liberties of the people of Colorado’s Third District by holding the Biden administration accountable. As an advocate for transparency and reform, I will pursue the truth, conduct effective oversight, and fight to root out waste, fraud, and abuse throughout the federal government. I look forward to working with Chairman James Comer and supporting his mission to eliminate mismanagement in the federal government by investigating the border and fentanyl crises, COVID relief fraud, government collusion with big tech to censor Americans, the botched Afghanistan withdrawal, the energy crisis, COVID origins, and the Biden family’s shady business schemes.” Background: Under Chairman James Comer’s leadership, the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability will get back to its original purpose of advocating for taxpayers by investigating reports of waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in the federal government. Chairman Comer and Rep. Boebert will work together to address some of the Oversight Committee’s top priorities for the 118th Congress, including: Investigating the border and fentanyl crises. Since Biden took office, over 4.35 million illegal aliens have crossed our border. This has fueled our nation’s crime crisis, with Border Patrol encountering over 120 murderers, almost 900 sex offenders, almost 5,000 for drug traffickers, and almost 700 weapons traffickers since Biden took office. In the midst of this crime wave at the southern border, enough fentanyl to kill every American 19 times over has crossed the border. The border crisis is devastating rural Colorado. Fentanyl is the leading cause of death for adults ages 18-45 and killed 71,238 Americans in 2021, including more than 900 Coloradans. Additionally, the border crisis costs Colorado an estimated $1.1 billion per year, with 45% of illegal aliens receiving government benefits. Investigating the weaponization of federal agencies against the American people. From weaponizing the FBI against parents who spoke out at school board meetings to colluding with big tech to censor conservatives and interfere in our elections, the Obama and Biden administrations have weaponized federal agencies against the American people.Investigating COVID fraud. It’s estimated that at least $560 billion of COVID relief was lost to waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement. For instance, money that was supposed to go to help students recover lost learning due to not being in the classroom instead went to fund electric school buses. Investigating the botched Afghanistan surrender. Over a year ago, 13 U.S. Servicemembers died in a tragic terrorist attack on Kabul Airport. Since that tragic August day, the American people have not received any answers from the Biden administration. The Oversight Committee will investigate why Biden abandoned 1,000 U.S. citizens and thousands of lawful permanent residents in Afghanistan. Additionally, the Oversight Committee will investigate why Joe Biden lied to the American people about his phone call to the Afghan President, pressuring him to “project a different picture” “whether it is true or not” to “change perception.” The Oversight Committee will also investigate the tactical failures of the Afghanistan surrender, including investigating why the Biden administration surrendered Bagram Air Base and instead evacuated Americans out of the unsecured airport in Kabul. The Committee also will investigate what happened to the $7 billion in military equipment the United States surrendered to the Taliban. Investigating the energy crisis. The Oversight Committee will investigate Biden’s energy failures that have more than doubled the cost of gasoline. Biden’s war on American energy is making electricity, household heating, and natural gas prices skyrocket—forcing Americans to pay more for necessities while also being crippled by rampant inflation. Additionally, the Oversight Committee will investigate why Biden sold oil from our Strategic Petroleum Reserve to China in order to influence energy prices right before the midterm election. Investigating COVID origins. To prevent future pandemics, it is critical for Congress to get to the bottom of what created the COVID pandemic. Taxpayer dollars funded the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and even Dr. Fauci knew the lab-leak theory was likely correct. The Oversight Committee must hold China, Dr. Fauci, and the public health industrial complex accountable for their role in covering up the origins of the COVID pandemic. Investigating the Biden family’s “pay-to-play” business schemes. Released documents prove that Joe Biden lied to the American people when he claimed that he was not involved in Hunter Biden’s shady business dealings. The American people deserve the truth about whether Joe Biden used his career in public service to sell out American interests to enrich his family.
