By Congressman Kevin Kiley – January 31, 2023
I just got off the House Floor. We voted to end Biden’s vaccine mandate for healthcare workers and passed the Pandemic is Over Act to end the national COVID emergency.
Incredibly, Biden responded by agreeing that the pandemic is over…on May 11. Like Newsom, he is literally scheduling the “emergency” to expire on a specific date.
I did speak with Biden at the White House last week on another topic: a promise he broke to my constituents. In 2021, Biden promised aid to hundreds of people who lost their homes in the Caldor Fire. It never came. You can see my Floor Speech demanding he keep his word.
Also at the Capitol today, I was honored to receive something rarely given to freshmen: a gavel. I was named Chairman of the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections, a key subcommittee for protecting the freedom to work and supporting small business.
Meanwhile, the Sacramento Bee is out with another story headlined: “New California congressman Kevin Kiley is using his new position to ‘expose’ Gavin Newsom.” They did not mean this as a compliment. But it’s exactly what I promised in the campaign.
To mark School Choice Week, for example, I gave a speech on the House Floor pointing out Newsom’s hypocrisy: embracing school choice for himself while denying it to less fortunate families; shutting down schools while sending his own kids to in-person private school.
And now, I’m not the only one calling Newsom out: A judge just granted a preliminary injunction ordering him not to enforce the COVID “misinformation” law. Sanity is returning to America – and perhaps even to California.
