Review by Samuel Strait – May 7, 2023
If Classical Music is your thing, Friday night’s performance by Boston’s
Balourdet String Quartet at Crescent Elk Auditorium of over two hours of
Hayden, Mendelssohn, Wolf and Brahms was a true pleasure. This quartet
offered passion, energy, and an excellent performance for the delight of
one’s ear. Coming all the way from Boston Massachusetts, arriving
shortly before the hour of 7:00 pm, yet the show went on as do all who
are true performers. The string quartet is but a bit over five years
since their formation, yet amassed an enviable record of world wide
accolades. Now based in Boston, Massachusetts, it was a true privilege
to have this recent performance in Crescent City.
Too often our lowly town spends time languishing in the backwaters of
Musical culture; however, the Del Norte-Curry Community Concert
Association has seen fit to attract stellar groups to perform at the
newly refurbished Crescent Elk Auditorium for several free concerts each
year. For that, a tip of the hat to Nick and Lisa Rail who were
instrumental in funding the auditorium’s make over.
The schedule for the 75th season is already set and will feature the
first of four performances on October 13th at 7:00 pm. If you have
enjoyed any of the performances brought to you by the Del Norte-Curry
Community Concert Association over the years, please drop them a line at
P.O.Box 1307, Crescent City, CA 95531 to express your appreciation.
Donations to the Cause are thankfully accepted and will enable the
Association to continue this welcome tradition.
