Last week, a mentally ill, homeless felon who’d been arrested three times in the last month entered a private Christian school in Northern California and maliciously shot two kindergarteners before shooting himself. The “Free Palestine” supporter took aim at two little boys, yet Governor Newsom’s condemnation of the heinous act was feeble – likely because as Red State reported, he recognized his own “utter incompetence in dealing with homelessness and crime.” Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said the boys were in critical, but stable condition and had a “very long road ahead of them in terms of recovery.”
Assemblyman Bill Essayli has stepped up to the plate big time in response to this tragedy and immediately introduced legislation to require at least one armed school resource officer (SRO) on every public school campus in the state. Essayli’s introduction of Assembly Bill 68 comes after Democrats shot down the same legislation earlier this year.
“Every time one of these shootings happens, it just becomes a 24-hour news story and then goes away. We don’t ever do anything,” he said. “I believe our kids should have just as much protection, if not more, than the politicians have.”
