Today Gavin Newsom made a stunning admission. Medi-Cal is insolvent. The cost of his policy of giving free coverage to every illegal immigrant in the state has ballooned to $9.5 billion, and he’s now asked for a $3.4 billion “loan” just to continue making payments for this month.
This gives added urgency to my bill to end this scandal by requiring Medi-Cal to be reserved for legal residents. Meanwhile another of my bills, to strip the CA Coastal Commission of its powers under federal law, is gaining significant momentum, including an endorsement from Elon Musk.
In DC this week, I convened my first hearing as Chairman of the House Education Subcommittee. We discussed the revolution in school choice and parents rights that we plan to unleash. See my opening statement here.
Following the hearing, I noted the hypocrisy of Newsom, Kamala, Biden, and others who oppose school choice while taking advantage of it for their own families. During COVID, Newsom even sent his kids to in-person private school while shutting down school for everyone else.
Also this week, we passed a bill to partially make up for the $32 billion Newsom squandered in COVID unemployment fraud. Our bill allows the fraudsters to be prosecuted and the money recovered – yet 127 Democrats opposed it. I expressed my bewilderment in a Floor Speech.
Finally, Kamala has said she is now seriously considering running for Governor and will decide in a few months. I believe Ms. Harris is absolutely capable of losing a statewide race in California and giving Republicans a shot at the Governor’s Office.
Indeed, a just released report shows Republicans made massive gains in voter registration following the catastrophic fires in Los Angeles. Voters are done with insane policies and incompetent leadership.
Help me fight for sanity in California
