Senate Majority Leader John Thune has brought H.R. 7296, the SAVE America Act, to the Senate floor for debate this week. President Trump has declared the SAVE America Act his top legislative priority and has stated he will not sign other legislation until it reaches his desk. The House has already passed this legislation, and now it’s the Senate’s turn to act.
The SAVE America Act would require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections and require photo identification to cast a ballot in person or by mail. These are commonsense election security measures backed by an overwhelming majority of Americans – a Harvard CAPS/Harris poll found that 71% of voters support the SAVE America Act, and CNN polling shows that 83% of Americans support requiring photo identification to vote, including 95% of Republicans, 71% of Democrats, 85% of white Americans, 82% of Latinos, and 76% of Black Americans.
Beyond election security, the SAVE America Act would remove a potentially powerful incentive for illegal immigration: access to the ballot box. Ensuring that only U.S. citizens can vote in federal elections strengthens both public trust in our democratic process and our immigration enforcement efforts.
Please send a message to your U.S. Senators urging them to vote YES on invoking cloture to advance the SAVE America Act to a final vote!
