Last week I released my endorsement of California’s Voter ID initiative. Then, like clockwork, the Attorney General (appointed by Newsom) blew up the initiative. He changed the wording on the ballot – “Prohibits citizens from voting…” – to sound scary and mislead voters.
This is why, when I was in the Assembly, I introduced legislation to remove the Attorney General’s power to write ballot language. My bill was endorsed by the LA Times and Sacramento Bee, yet repeatedly killed by the Supermajority.
The good news, as I discussed on the House Floor, is we’ve overcome these undemocratic schemes before. Two-thirds of Californians oppose Newsom’s gas car ban, yet no one ever got to vote on it – until my Resolution overturning the ban passed Congress overwhelmingly.
Similarly, nearly 70 percent of Californians voted for Prop. 36, our initiative to make crime illegal again, despite Newsom’s many schemes to derail it (and ongoing effort to de-fund it). And Californians recently voted to bar a new healthcare tax, but Newsom just imposed one anyway.
We are going to stop this too. I am submitting a formal request, joined by my colleagues in the California delegation, asking the Department of Health and Human Services to block Newsom’s new tax and spare Californians hundreds of dollars in higher premiums.
Meanwhile in DC, we passed a bill in the Education Committee protecting parents’ right to opt your child out of objectionable classroom topics. I also sent my letter to the UC President calling for the SAT and ACT to be reinstated immediately.
And I joined Fox Business to discuss new documents suggesting a possible cover-up related to the origins of COVID-19 and the role of U.S. funding. This comes as Anthony Fauci will appear before Congress next week.
Finally, the Sacramento Bee has offered to host a debate between me and Richard Pan. I’ve agreed; Pan hasn’t. He plans to hide from voters, but we’ll make sure everyone knows what he and Newsom have done to our state.
