We’ve just held an oversight hearing in the House Judiciary Committee on the failures of Gavin Newsom. I worked with Chairman Jim Jordan to arrange the hearing, bringing in witnesses who could speak to Newsom’s catastrophic ineptitude.

You can watch the highlights here, as well as my recap here. I said at the outset: we are casting a light on the “titanic policy blunders” and “staggering failures of political leadership” that have caused so much harm to our state. And I noted: we are turning the tide.

Newsom was actually in DC during the hearing, showing up at the White House uninvited. President Trump was gracious enough to meet with him. Yet incredibly, Newsom then flew home and signed legislation to “Trump-proof” our state with a $50 million slush fund.

Meanwhile, a scathing Inspector General report found that the High-Speed Rail Authority will not meet its 2033 deadline for the Merced to Bakersfield segment. That is the very first segment. As I discussed on Inside California Politics, my legislation will cut off all funding and kill the project.

The Newsom Administration also just admitted California is spending even more than previously reported on healthcare for illegal immigrants: $9.5 billion so far this fiscal year. My legislation will reduce that number to zero by reserving Medi-Cal for legal California citizens.

And as the new Chair of the Education Subcommittee, I presented a shocking chart: For at least a decade, overall education spending has skyrocketed while student learning has plummeted. My committee is working on major reforms to restore local control and protect parental rights.

Finally, I’ve seen polling that shows a voter ID ballot initiative has the overwhelming support of Republicans, Independents, and Democrats in California. And we’ve already proven we can beat Newsom through the initiative process with Prop. 36. Stay tuned!
