Governor must outsource custody operations- not release prisoners.
Del Norte County- with Justice Anthony Kennedy’s rejection of California’s request for extra time to downsize the state prisons, Supervisor Roger Gitlin reiterated his call for a cost-effective alternative that addresses the federal court’s order and protects public safety.
“Governor Brown has two choices- transfer inmates to in-state and out-of-state detention facilities through contracting, or release 9,000 dangerous felons into our communities,” said Gitlin, “it’s a no-brainer. The governor needs to stop pussyfooting and immediately utilize available detention beds at less than half the cost of the state’s prison beds.”
