The Yurok Tribe Police Department has been assisting the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office with shift coverages due to low staffing levels. Sunday morning, May 15, at approximately 6:00 am, while conducting an arrest of a warrant subject that was in the possession of drugs, Officer Gibson came into contact with a powdery substance. Officer Gibson became dizzy and fell unconscious, and the Crescent City Police Department administered NARCAN (nalozone) before he was transported to the hospital. Officer Gibson was treated for a Fentanyl exposure and discharged, and is doing fine.

Please be careful when interacting with unknown substances because they can cause an overdose quickly, even through an aerosolized powder.
