Submitted by Lt. Berg at Pelican Bay State Prison – Tuesday, April 19, 2017 –  Pelican Bay State Prison hosted its annual luncheon to recognize National Crime Victims Week.

Agencies within the community attended and honored those in our community who bring their energy, skills, and commitment to their work. They were recognized because they provide important and necessary services to our community and crime victims. At our event, Pelican Bay honored two of its staff Correctional Counselor II’s, Wendy Coleman and Melinda Russell who serve as the liaisons for the victims and their family during parole suitability hearings with the Broad of Parole Hearings.

Also in attendance was Crescent City Police Department, Del Norte County Sherriff, the District Attorney’s Office, Del Norte County Victim/Witness office, Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), Harrington House, Del Norte Probation, Oasis house, Crescent City Mayor, Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services. This is something we are actively involved in. In addition, CDCR has the Office of Victim and Survivor Rights and Services, which has many resources for victims of crime and their families, and they hosted an event in Sacramento earlier this month during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.
