Proposition 218 allows ratepayers to stop rate increases simply by submitting 50% + 1 signatures stating they are against it. What could be simpler?

Here’s a current example of a 218 Protest to stop the Sewer User Fee Rate increase proposed to begin July 1st:

If you’re interested in protesting the 245% increase in sewer user fee, on Thursday, this Thursday June 8th starting from1:30 in the afternoon, two volunteers will be manning a table by the Post Office on 2nd Street in Crescent City.

They will have forms for you to sign. They will have forms for you to take to your neighbors to sign.

Prop 218 protests are so much simpler than trying to put something on the ballot.

The deadline for the protest is June 28th…. but we want to get it done by June 27th.
