Opinion and Commentary By Donna Westfall – November 1, 2025
Sometimes there’s only enough time to read the headlines to get a sense for what’s going on in our state, our country and around the world. Let’s start here as the November 4th election is sure to be thrilling.
My favorite four letter word is FREE. Having said that, when it comes to politicians when they say FREE, it usually means taxpayers pay.
Let’s look at Mamdani running for Mayor of New York City. His solution is to tax the rich in order to benefit those struggling. What happens when the RICH move out of town? Does he have a solution for that? There’s only so much one can take when someone like Mamdani treats them like he’s a blood sucking parasite. Before you know it, the RICH say to themselves, “It’s been nice, NYC, but I’m outta here.”
Just like Elon Musk did in California in 2020.
Speaking of California. In Just the News published October 23, 2025 is this headline: California to invest $140 million in Planned Parenthood to compensate for loss of federal funds.
Was there a vote to do that? No! Newsom said they were life-saving critical health care centers. If you ask me, they are also death centers. Listen, over 63 million abortions since Roe v Wade became legal. Do you know how many countries have a population of around 63 million or less?
The list is long: here’s just 10
- France – 66 mil
- South Africa – 65 mil
- Italy – 59 mil
- Kenya – 57 mil
- Myanmar -54 mil
- Columbia – 53 mil
- South Korea – 51 mil
- Sudan – 51 mil
- Uganda – 51 mil
- Spain – 47 mil
Instead, some genius decided we would be better off allowing illegal aliens to swarm our country to the tune of 20 million or so, go on our welfare rolls and/or commit crimes to boggle the mind.
Just imagine if we had 63 million more American’s creating jobs and industries and working to better our country, would that have been so bad to allow those fetuses to live?
Getting back to Mamdani, did you know that over 850 Rabbi’s and cantors have signed a letter opposing him? The letter was released on line and shared in articles according to the New York Times.
What has Mamdani stood for regarding Israel and Jews?
- Vowed to arrest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visits New York citing the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant. But here’s the problem. The US is not a party to the ICC. It’s authority over US soil is not recognized.
- The double standard: He said during the October 16th mayoral debate that he did not believe in Israel’s right as a Jewish state and “would not recognize any state’s right to exist with a system of hierarchy on the basis of race or religion.
Let’s pause for a moment and think about this: There are around 10 million Jews living in Israel. They are surrounded by Arab/Muslim countries. Has Mamdani said ANYTHING about those countries and their maintaining a system of hierarchy on the basis of race or religion?
NO!
What are those countries: Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. Total population 161 million.
- One more thing. Mamdani continues to use the term genocide instead of Israel’s right to defend themselves and use counterterrorism against Hamas until the hostages were returned.
But wait. There are hundreds and hundreds of Jews in New York City that support Mamdani, including Rachel Laforest, Chief Campaigns Officer at Bend the Arc.
In her article titled, “Hundreds of rabbis & cantors just made Jews less safe: Why their Zohran Mamdani letter does Trump’s work” dated October 23, 2025; all I can say is unbelievable! Don’t think so? Read it for yourself at: https://www.bendthearc.us/hundreds_of_rabbis_cantors_just_made_jews_less_safe_why_their_zohran_mamdani_letter_does_trump_s_work
Current Mayor, Eric Adams has dropped out of the race. 34 year old Zohran Mamdani is currently an Assemblyman with a staff of 5. Former Governor Cuomo has the experience governing the state with a population of 19+ million but follows Mamdani in the polls by 6.6 points. Curtis Sliwa is in third place. The gap between Mamdani and Cuomo is apparently closing as more and more voters figure out that “freeze the rent”, “free food”, “free buses” and “raise corporate taxes” is just pie in the sky by Mamdani.
This is what Mamdani has a lot of: ENERGY. He’s out there from morning to night meeting people, shaking hands, directing his staff to get out and knock on doors. And that’s what it takes to make a difference.
If he gets elected, we’ll see if he can sustain any of his campaign promises. It’s just a couple more days and then time will tell.
