Buying At Our Auctions

Auction Registration

The first step in the auction process is to register to bid. It costs nothing to register, just fill out a bidder registration card and show a state-issued photo ID. You will be assigned a bid number for the auction (all purchases are logged by bid number). An auction catalog is provided when you register to bid. The catalog gives a general description of each item in the auction.

Auction Preview

Preview allows the bidder to examine all of the items listed in the catalog. Everything will be sold "as is - where is" and no guarantees or warranties are made or implied. If there is a known problem with a particular item, the auctioneer will make every attempt to disclose known issues verbally or in writing. The auction supervisor who arranged everything for the auction may also be of help. If the item is a vehicle, the engine can be started and run but the vehicle itself cannot be test driven. If power is available, computers and other electronic equipment and tools can usually be tested. Large machinery can also be started, usually with the guidance of the auction supervisor.

Absentee Bids

If you find you cannot stay for the auction itself you can leave an absentee bid. With an absentee bid the auctioneer will do the bidding for you. The auctioneer will bid for you up to your limit. You will always be the high bidder up to your limit. If the item sells below your limit you will have won the bid at that lower price. You must leave a 25% deposit with your absentee bid and you will be notified if you were the successful bidder. If you are not awarded the bid the deposit will be returned or refunded to you.

Online Only Auction Bidding

Online Only auctions are offered on the internet only. These auctions require a secure online registration and allow each bidder the ability to leave bids at anytime. In some cases, timed auctions will have varying preview and removal times. We will have a designated closing time for each auction and the highest bidder will win!

Advanced Bidding

Advanced bidding takes place on this website for each auction. The catalog is normally posted two days prior to the auction and allows online advanced bidding. Advanced bidding works just like the absentee bid, the difference being that the bid is taken online. To advance bid you must register with murphyauction.com. MurphyLIVE!

Some of our auctions feature MurphyLlVE. This is our simultaneous online bidding system that operates in tandem with a live auction. MurphyLive gives real time audio and bidding to the customer. Bids that come in via MurphyLIVE will be spotted and recognized just like a floor bidder. The difference is that your bid comes to us through a computer. Live Auction Bidding

The auction will start with LOT 1 and continue in numerical sequence until everything is sold. At some large auctions, the auction staff will split into two or more rings and conduct two or more auctions at the same time.

The auctioneer starts selling an item at what its approximate market value is. If no one bids the auctioneer drops the price until someone bids. The auctioneer or a bid spotter (sometimes called a "ringman") will catch the attention of the auctioneer. The auctioneer or spotter will concentrate their attention on you during the whole time the item you are bidding on is being sold, or until you stop bidding. If you are bidding and are unsure whether or not you have the bid, point to yourself and the auctioneer or spotter will let you know if your bid is the current winning bid. The auctioneer will not let you raise your own bid! If you wish to continue bidding just keep raising your bid card until the auctioneer says sold. If not, just shake your head.

Most auctioneers sell with a very rhythmic chant. Some auctioneers are easier to follow than others, but after listening to their chant they become easy to follow. During his chant there are 2 prices he is calling - the price the item is at and the price the auctioneer is asking. When an item is close to being sold the auctioneer will usually give a warning, such as "Going, once! Going, twice! Third and final call...SOLD!" Once the auctioneer says SOLD that piece is no longer available and the next item will begin.

Payment

When the auctioneer says "sold" the item is sold. The bid is recorded by the auction clerk on the auction stand and is sent to the auction office. You have to pay for the item by the end of the auction or sometimes you have until the next day, in which case you need to leave a 25% deposit before you leave the auction site. Deposits may be made with MasterCard®, Visa®, or cash. Payment in full may be made by MasterCard® or Visa®, cashier's check, cash, or wire transfer. At most auctions, a buyer's premium is additionally charged on all purchases. Personal or company checks are accepted only with a bank letter of guarantee.

Removal

REMOVAL NOTE
JGM Co. does not provide invoices for individuals other than the original purchaser. If the original purchaser is sending a driver or sub-contracted shipper, the driver is required to show proof of purchase. Proof of purchase includes a paid receipt, copy of a paid receipt or a lot release.

Removal of your purchases must be made within 2 days after the auction or as specified by the auctioneer. If your purchase is wired or plumbed you are responsible for capping any plumbing and adding wire nuts to any electrical connections. The plumbing and wiring must be done by a licensed technician and meet all local & county codes. You are solely responsible for making any arrangements for the loading and transport of your auction purchases.
