We’ve officially made history. Despite Newsom redrawing the map, we took first place in the Primary. We’ll now face Richard Pan, who represents everything we’ve been fighting against.
After 12 years in the Legislature, Pan was termed out. He ran for Sacramento Mayor, but lost in the primary. When Newsom unveiled his gerrymander, Pan pivoted to Congress. He launched a run for the 3rd District, but decided he wouldn’t make the top two, so switched to the 6th.
As I said on CBS National, this race is a clear choice: our movement for common sense in California versus the extreme partisanship and failed policies of Newsom and Pan. The good news is we’ve defeated both of them many times before.
This comes as we had a major victory in DC. Our bill to stop the massive fraud seen at California Community Colleges passed the House with strong bipartisan support. California allowed millions in financial aid from 1.2 million “ghost” students, a third of all applicants.
Two other exciting developments: Our office has just been recognized with the Best of Constituent Service award out of all congressional offices in the country. And my former Assembly colleague James Gallagher was just sworn in as the newest Member of the House.
And the NY Times has effectively endorsed our bill to make California count votes faster, saying the state is “defending the indefensible.” As I noted on Fox, the reason for the glacial count is also why we pay the highest gas taxes while driving over the deepest potholes: incompetence.
In a new piece for the Washington Post, Fareed Zakaria calls this California’s “failed governance” model. We’ve fought against that model in every way we can – with more success than anyone thought possible. This election will be our best chance to turn the page on it for good.
