IT would be nice to have the Mushroom Festival held locally, but instead it’s being held in Brookings, Oregon at the Chetco Activity Center this weekend both Saturday and Sunday, November 3rd and 4th. The Center is located at 550 Chetco Lane, Brookings, Or.

The big question on everyone’s mind is, “Will there be mushrooms at the festival?”  It’s been so dry, and mushrooms need moisture.

Local Del Norte County resident and mycologist (branch of biology concerned with fungi), Jaime Yarbrough, says, “YES, there will be mushrooms.”

He will be one of eight speakers giving workshops and presentations during the two day event. His topic, Tips on cooking with wild mushrooms, identifying them properly along with simple recipes and dry sauteing. His presentation starts at 11 am on Sunday.

There is an admission charge:  $1/day.  Children under 16 are FREE. Doors will open at 10 am and close at 4 pm each day. Beer will be available

TICKETS for workshops are $3.00/adult, under 16 FREE; keynote presentation tickets are $5.00/adult, under 16 FREE.

This festival was put together by the members of Wild Rivers Mushroom Club founded in 2006 by Kathleen Dickson.  They received grants from various Oregon sources.

Perhaps, next year, Crescent City will have a Mushroom Festival held at the local Fairgrounds.
