Recently, the petitions to repeal Measure R, the 1% County Sales Tax, was prepared to go on the June primary ballot.
Oh, No! said the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors. We’ll put it on the November ballot AND since the petition used “RESOLUTION” INSTEAD OF “ORDINANCE”, you’ll have to submit another 416 signatures to get the repeal of the sales tax on the November ballot. AND you have to turn in all those signatures by JUNE 30, 2022
The petition to repeal Measure R was approved on Friday, May 20th. Signature gathering has started.
If you want to sign, it has to be an original signature. Also No Post Office Boxes. Must have a street address.
If you’re in Districts 2, 4 and 5, you can also sign to repeal the Fire District Tax at the same time.
Registered voters living in the city can sign the petition to repeal Measure R.
To get copies of petitions, call or text (707) 951-0184. If you have the time to sit at a table, let me know. There are a variety of locations around town. Or you can merely knock on your neighbors doors and collect signatures.
I recall sitting in a meeting with Sup. Chris Howard and CAO Neal Lopez asking, where is the money coming from to give pay raises and hire new people?
“Oh, it’s coming from the departments.”
Well, we know how that goes. They forgot that the money comes from the taxpayers. And I don’t see a whole lot of taxpayers in our County getting 7% pay increases like government employees are.
The truth eventually came out. The salaries/benefits are coming from Measure R funds.
What happened to repairing the roads?
What happened to “No Measure R funds will be used for salaries!”
Lied to again. That’s what happened.
If you vote to retain these crooks in office, it’s like voting for Biden for President. I predict our county is only going to get worse.
