The states of Missouri and Mississippi are proposing legislation to use bounty hunters to enforce successful deportation of criminal illegal aliens. Each bill would pay $1,000 per each successful deportation.
The proposed legislation would also establish training and licensing programs. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is overwhelmed and local law enforcement is understaffed.
Naturally, intense debate is taking place. Some are concerned that civil rights abuses will take place. Also concerns that financial gain would take precedence over due process. These proposed bills are not structured to go after any undocumented person. It’s specifically for those with criminal records or deportation orders.
As a way to ensure fairness and legality, body cams and ICE data base checks has been suggested.
This program, if passed, supports states immigration policies that complement federal goals.
