The federal government has ordered an end to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs in K-12 education, but California school officials are refusing to comply. Instead, administrators are being told to ignore the directive and continue business as usual.

“California’s K-12 schools are getting some clarity on how to handle the Trump administration’s sweeping orders to abolish diversity, equity and inclusion programs. The answer is: Do nothing. Not yet, anyway.

‘Time to take a breath. Just because Trump ordered it, doesn’t mean it’s going to happen,’ Noelle Ellerson Ng, a legislative advocate for the School Superintendents Association, told California school administrators last week.”

This defiance is not an isolated incident. Across the country, school district bureaucracies continue to push progressive policies in direct opposition to state and federal law. Accuracy in Media has repeatedly exposed these efforts, including an investigation into Coppell ISD in Texas, where administrators continued to teach Critical Race Theory despite a statewide ban.

The pattern is clear: School district officials believe they can ignore laws they disagree with. Even though taxpayers fund public education, bureaucrats insist they know better than both legislators and parents, and they continue to impose ideological agendas in classrooms.

The only lasting solution to this problem is school choice. Giving parents the power to choose their children’s schools removes reliance on district bureaucracies and ensures that schools are accountable to families, not political activists.

While the tide appears to be turning—with legal victories and an expansion of school choice policies—these gains are not guaranteed. The Mississippi Senate recently voted down a school choice bill, proving that progressives and entrenched administrators are still fighting to keep control.

The time to act is now. Every policy change, every legal win, and every investigation is part of a larger fight to free education from the grip of a bureaucracy that openly defies the law. School choice is the only way to permanently ensure that schools serve students, not political agendas.
