By Donna Westfall – July 24, 2018 – Isn’t it amazing the amount of trash humans can generate? Even more amazing is how homelessness can foul up our environment and nobody seems to notice? Except we do notice. On more than one occasion, Supervisor 1st District, Roger Gitlin, has organized people and resources to clear out over a ton of garbage across the street from South Beach. He’s successfully completed 38 clean-ups around the county.
The more hands the merrier:
Joining Roger and Supervisor 5th District, Bob Berkowitz, were their wives and 28 other volunteers. In addition, these organizations and businesses helped Take a Bite Out of Blight, with partners JustServ, Team Wal-Mart, Team Home Depot, Crescent Ace Hardware Northern Knights Car Club, Surfriders, HAMBROS, Recology Del Norte, Crescent Ace Hardware, Port O’Pints, and community members. The cost? Nothing to the taxpayer. Everything was donated. What could be better than that?
Thank you, Donna.
This was truly a team effort.
Partners included: Northern Knights Car Club, Hambro WSG, Team Home Depot, Team Wal-Mart,Del Norte Code Enforcement, Cal Trans, Crescent Ace Hardware, JustServ and 32 hero volunteers from Take a Bite out of Blight who removed 1.97 tons of human-created filth.
