By Donna Westfall – Today is the 60th anniversary of the signing into law In God We Trust Motto. July 30, 1956 President Dwight Eisenhower signed the document as our Official Motto.
60 years later, our own local 1st District Supervisor, Roger Gitlin, joined former presidential candidate, Rick Santorum, in Bakersfield as guest speaker. More than 700 people in the audience at the Marriott in Bakersfield listened to Santorum and Gitlin with a specific message to “Do Something.”
Gitlin writes, I was challenged with following this absolutely charismatic speaker. WOW! I tossed my notes and spoke from my heart and stood as tall as I could and said, … “The do something is…write a letter to the editor, attend and speak up at City Council and Board of Supervisors meetings during public comments, go to our public school board meetings and every school in the District and make sure every classroom proudly displays an American flag and the Pledge of Allegiance is recited and explained per California Education Code law.” We ALL can do more. Proudly display your love of country and our community. Do not cower from threats by these Politburo bullies that will take every freedom you have and erase them from your existence. And share this message with everyone you know. After my presentation, some folks approached me and asked what should we call this Mission. Simple: TAKE BACK AMERICA…which begins with TAKE BACK CALIFORNIA and TAKE BACK DEL NORTE…The last one is already in process.”
