It should prove to be a lovely day in Crescent City with temps in the 50’s. Unlike Oymyakon, Russia, which averages minus 58 degrees F. The remote village is generally considered the coldest inhabited area on Earth and has the lowest winter temperatures of any city in the world.
What are some of the problems living in extremely cold weather? Wearing glasses outdoors can cause them to stick to the wearer’s face. You either have to park your car in a heated garage or not turn it off because you won’t be able to start it up again. You can’t dig graves. The ground has to be warmed with a bonfire before a funeral. Planes cannot fly into the area in the winter. Your saliva can freeze into needles that will prick your lips.
So, I say, love our rain. We need it. We can still live life well. We can go outdoors and not worry about frostbite, or having our plumbing freeze up. We don’t have to be concerned about putting chains on our tires just to drive. You can start seedling indoors and start thinking about planting fruits and vegetables outside soon. But don’t forget to contribute food stuffs to places like Our Daily Bread Ministries on Harrold Street. They continue to feed those in need week in and week out. Not everyone in our town has a roof over their heads.
