Opinion and Commentary By Donna Westfall – October 12, 2023

Ponder this for a moment. If the hate-filled Hamas get their wish and all Jews and Americans became exterminated from this earth, what would they have to concern themselves with next? World peace? I don’t think so.

Is there a solution to Hamas. Probably not going to happen in this lifetime.

Let’s talk about Hamas. They were created in 1987 with the strategy to create a separate State of Palestine. They are a militant, violent group intent on Israel’s annihilation.

78 years ago Adolph Hitler died. Most people in the world today don’t even remember World War II. Thanks go to Dwight Eisenhower who demanded that pictures be taken of the horrors of the “final solution” to the Jewish problem. That’s why we have documentation that Hitler and his true believers did commit atrocities upon humankind. Some naive people in our world thought there would never be another horror like Hitler’s horror, but just wait because back on Saturday, October 7, 2023, Hamas bombarded Israel with rockets, rapes, murders, hostage taking, mutilations of hundreds and thousands of innocents including some American’s.

Former HAMAS leader Khaled Mashal

78 years later, the fellow pictured above is calling for Jihad this Friday, October 13th. Meaning, he’s encouraging true believers to become martyrs for the cause. What’s the cause this week? To kill Jews and Americans. Let’s get down into the brass tacks. And, thank goodness YouTube took down his video.

FACTS:

The State of Israel was created on May 14, 1948 by David Ben-Gurion’s proclamation. He was the head of the Jewish Agency. The same day, President Harry Truman recognized the new nation. Israel joined the United Nations.

Before it became Israel, it was called Palestine. It had a diverse population of Arabs, Jews and Christians. Centuries ago it was called Canaan.

If we continue to look back to biblical times, and the Old Testament, the land was promised to the Israelites by God. When was this? About 4,000 years ago.

What is the current population of Israel: Less than 10 million.

What is the current population of Palestinians? About 5 million.

How big an area are we talking about? It’s comparable to New Jersey.

How many Palestinians currently support Hamas? About 57% . In 2006, Hamas won the election and dominated the seats in their Palestinian Parliament with 76 vs 43 for the Fatah Party. Mostly the voters were disgusted with the corruption in their government (Fatah Party) and thought Hamas would make things better. We’re told that they were not necessarily in support of Hamas’ political platform. Too bad because today they have to live with the reality of war due to the attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7th. The reality of having food, water, and services stopped. The reality of having mosques, homes, and hospitals bombed. The reality of aid stopped. The reality is that they are under an air, land and sea blockade. All this in retaliation to the Hamas attack on October 7th. About 2 million people are affected. More than 20,000 have left the Gaza border area. Smart move on their part.

But, it’s not like they can escape to Egypt because that country is not opening their doors to them.

What is surprising is that Israel was unprepared, even though Egypt warned them days before about an impending potential strike by Hamas. And, what happened to their Iron Dome?

Who knows how long this blood bath will continue? What is certain is that Israel will continue to bombard their enemy for the time being and Hamas will continue to play the savages as they are promising to execute their hostages and televising it.

Back during the Bush administration, when Hamas took control of their Parliament, Bush said he would not negotiate with Hamas for a two-state solution (Israel and Palestine) until Hamas recognized Israel’s right to exist.

Therein lies the quandary. Should Hamas cease to exist, or should the Palestinian Parliament recognize Israel’s right to exist, then and only then could there be an avenue to creating a Palestinian state.

Let’s just hope that this blood bath isn’t the trigger to starting World War III.
