This year, I’ve used every available tool to end Newsom’s disastrous policy of free Medi-Cal for all illegal immigrants. On Tuesday, things came to a head. In a speech on the House Floor, I told Newsom that the moment of reckoning had arrived. The next day, he backed down.
Admitting defeat, Newsom announced he is ending his reckless policy. While, in an attempt to save face, he only went halfway – ending future enrollment while making existing enrollees pay a premium – the pressure we’re applying should compel the Legislature to finish the job.
It’s now been a few months since we published our plan to Newsom-Proof California, and we can take stock of where things stand with respect to each of its 10 pillars:
We’ve (1) forced Newsom to abandon his illegal Medi-Cal disaster; (2) overturned his gas-car ban in the House with the Senate voting next week; (3) passed Prop. 36 to make crime illegal again; and (4) beat Newsom at the Supreme Court to clear homeless encampments.
We’ve (5) created major new water storage and stopped diversion to the ocean; (6) passed the SAVE act to require proof of citizenship for registering to vote; and (7) passed Fix Our Forests in the House to counter Newsom’s disastrous fire policies, with the Senate voting soon.
We’ve (8) cut off federal funding for High-Speed Rail; (9) built enormous momentum for our bill to end the Sanctuary State; and (10) assumed the Chairmanship of the Education Subcommittee, with our revolutionary school choice legislation soon to become law.
Meanwhile, our efforts to expose Newsom’s failures have clearly had an effect. A new Berkeley/IGS poll shows that the Governor’s approval rating is underwater in California and that he is even less popular than Kamala Harris. This doesn’t bode so well for his 2028 delusions.
Help me complete our Newsom-Proofing plan
