Opinion and Commentary By Donna Westfall – October 31, 2023

Be still my heart. The man who is third in line to the Presidency of the United States of America is a Christian. Held in his hand before becoming the Speaker of the House for the 118th Congress was this book, “Lead Like Jesus.”

For those unaware, Republican Representative Mike Johnson is from Louisiana. He’s married with four children. As an attorney, he summarized his legal career as “defending religious freedom, the sanctity of human life, and biblical values, including the defense of traditional marriage, and other ideals like these when they’ve been under assault”.

How and when did he get into politics?

In 2015, the 8th District seat in the Louisiana House of Reps was vacated when the rep was elected to a state judgeship. Johnson ran unopposed.

In 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2022, Johnson ran for 4th District congressional seat and won each time.

He voted to overturn the 2020 election results along with 146 other Republicans. Unfortunately, Biden became our President.

During the two impeachment attempts, Johnson served on Trumps legal defense team which resulted in Trumps acquittals in both 2019 and 2021.

Johnson is clearly anti-abortion, thinks it’s a crime and he’s anti-gay.

He has the backing of Trump, but then so did Kevin McCarthy.

One can only wonder how in the world this guy was approved by our clearly dysfunctional House of Representatives. I haven’t a clue, but hope that his principles help to turn our nation around because we are unquestionably going in the wrong direction.

  1. Holy moly I almost forgot people still believe in god. I’m very excited to have a speaker who is so devout. Surely, because of this, in just a few months time everything will be perfect. Can’t wait.
