It’s a busy and exciting time. I am currently working in Congress to Newsom-proof California by ending: High-Speed Rail, the Gas Car Ban, the Sanctuary State, MediCal for Illegal Immigrants, and the embarrassing month-long Vote Count. And there’s much more to come.

There’s also this news: Kamala Harris is now seriously considering a run for California Governor, CNN reports. She says she’s “not going quietly into the night.” If she does run, I believe California could realistically elect a Republican Governor in 2026.

The plan, it seems, is for Newsom and Kamala to switch roles: as she runs for Governor, he’d run for President. As delusional as that sounds, the plan appears to already be in motion: just yesterday, right on cue, Newsom named a senior Kamala advisor as his new Chief-of-Staff.

The good news is the Trump Administration is shaping up to have strong California representation, with Ric Grenell and Harmeet Dhillon receiving top appointments. And several of my Newsom-proofing bills already have considerable momentum:

  • My bill to kill High-Speed Rail has become a key example of the sort of waste the Department of Government Efficiency will target. You can read more in Newsweek and watch my Floor Speech announcing the legislation.
  • Now that California has finally finished counting votes, after 37 days, I am sponsoring legislation to stop this national embarrassment by giving state official strict deadlines for future elections. See my Floor Speech lambasting the glacial vote count.
  • I am introducing legislation to stop Newsom from continuing to spend $3.1 billion each year on healthcare for everyone in the state illegally.

And in one important respect, the Newsom-proofing of California has already begun. Prop. 36, our initiative to make crime illegal again, goes into effect tomorrow. It truly is a new day for California.
