Thursday night, February 20,th there was a Chamber of Commerce mixer at the Child Care Council located at 212 K St in Crescent City. The new executive director Melody is about to get married so I didn’t pick up on her last name as it’s about to change. I did met her fiance and he was very interested in ham radio. (Next Del Norte Amateur Radio meeting on February 27th, at the Red Cross building on Northcrest at 7pm).
The Child Care Council’s website, which is under construction, explains:
“The Del Norte Child Care Council offers services for families of Del Norte County. We focus on quality childcare for your children, strengthening parent/child relationships through education and activities, child safety and subsidy childcare reimbursements for qualified families.
We provide a variety of programs including our toy room and resource library, annual family events, court appointed supervised visitation and Incredible Years parent education.”
They did say there was going to be a large fund raising event in September called “Rambling Rowdy” to be held out at the campground up Rowdy Creek.
All chamber mixers are open to the public (because they post an advertising sign outside each business where there is a mixer). The Chamber has special functions that are only open to members (annual dinner, etc.) I’m not currently a Chamber member, so I’m attending as the public.
The ability to meet, greet, and have conversations with business owners, public officers/officials (city council, board of supervisors, Chief of Police, RHS personnel, school board members etc…) in an informal setting, for me, and I would think for others, is very important.
And the catered food & wine/drinks are always good.
Coming up next:
Tuesday, February 25th at 10:00 am is the Del Norte Board of Supervisors (BOS) meeting at the Flynn Center located at 981 H Street in Crescent City where the State of Jefferson (SOJ) supporters will be present in force to pull the tabled item of placing the ‘Declaration’ on the Del Norte June primary ballot (while there is still time – down to the wire ! )
Next will be the SOJ /BOS pow-wow meeting 3 PM Thursday in the board chamber – open to the public.
Also the every-other month meeting of CERT (Community emergency response team) members will be at the Fire Protection District on Washington Blvd.
