At today’s Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority meeting held in the Board of Supervisors chambers in the Flynn Center, Director Tedd Ward handed out Green Ribbon Award certificates to numerous organizations and businesses including Home Depot, Team WalMart, Interfaith Council, Smith River Alliance, the Klamath River Tribal Office, Recology, Hambro, Surfriders, West Park Properties, and the volunteers of Take a Bite Out of Blight.

50 people took part in the South Beach Clean-up which was the 27th clean-up by Roger Gitlins’ Take A Bit Out of Blight group. More than seven tons of trash were collected behind the Spruce Trees off  Hwy 101 across from South Beach.

Only a small group attended today’s ceremony which included 5th District Supervisor, Bob Berkowitz along with Jake Smith, running for supervisor in the 3rd District and Dave Mason, running for supervisor in the 4th District.

Bottom row: Jaime Yarbrough, Donna Westfall and Eileen Cooper. Next row: Dave Mason, Roger Gitlin and Patty Smith. Next row: Father Gregory Villaescusa, Jake Smith and Bonnie Brown. Top row: Craig Bradford and Dave Slagle.

The only difference in this picture is that Bob Berkowitz traded places with Roger Gitlin. Bob’s the fella in the red shirt not to be confused with me in the red sweatshirt.

  1. Donna, it is a beautiful thing when people from all walks of life come together to make a difference. Thank you to all the dedicated volunteers working to beautify and clean up our County.
