BlackHawk Pistol
BlackHawk Pistol

Where we left off on Part 1, 2 and 3 of this story: County resident, Dave Egan, had his door bashed in by a SWAT type operation of the Sheriffs Department, beaten unconscious,  and the only item named on the warrant was never found in the raid (the BlackHawk Pistol). Yet these Sheriffs deputies and detectives confiscated every valuable thing in his home including his entire gun collection, heirloom pieces from his family, gold coins, and cash.  All of this was perpetrated by Sheriffs’ Detective Bob Barber’s claim that Dave Egan was a prior felon, a career criminal which was UNTRUE.

We thought that Part 3 would be the final chapter of the BlackHawk Pistol story but realized that this story is not yet over.  The DVD/video requested on April 25, 2014 of the raid and never provided, did exist last year based on my conversation with 1.) Katherine Micks in the DA’s office, 2.)then Sheriff Dean Wilson , and 3) Facebook posting by Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Griffin. However, according to County Counsel, they do not have a copy. How is that even possible when so many of our law enforcement officers wear cameras? And there were plenty of them at Egan’s house that fateful day.

Since then here’s what happened.  Dave Egan filed a lawsuit against the County, Case #CV UJ 14-1046.

The word is that Defendant (former) Det. Bob Barber QUIT!

Defendant (former) head of the drug task force Steve Morris RETIRED!

Defendant (former) Sheriff Dean Wilson lost his bid for RE-ELECTION!

In addition, (former) DA Jon Alexander was DISBARRED!  He was the one who brought felony charges against Egan that were meritless.

Dave Egan attributes all this good news to his own efforts and to the reporting in Crescent City Times.com.

Hopefully this is a sign that things have changed for the better in Del Norte County.  Hopefully, the County is ready to settle this matter, make things right and begin a new era.

Today, we commence project infinity. This project, believe it or not, will be carried out by you, and we believe it can make a huge impact on the world we currently live in. During the past year we have received an incredible amount of messages from the public talking about government injustice and police brutality, and now, we give you the chance to show it to the world. We want you to post a video on your youtube channel talking about your own personal experience involving government injustice, war, police brutality or any experience in which the higher ups have unfairly forced their power upon you, and title the video “project infinity”. Then send us the link to the video through the youtube channel Officiallyanonymous. If the video passes our criteria we will post it in this channel for the world to see. It is time for you to stand up, it is time for you to make a difference, it is time for you to change the world.

  2. Question: Was there a confidential informant involved in the fabricated charges against Mr. Egan to obtain a warrant to search his house? If so what does that say about the person issuing a warrant based on allegations of a confidential informant, who could possibly be a criminal, immune from prosecution. Most police brutality cases I’ve heard involved an officer inflicting undo or unneeded force on a victim, and an outraged community demanding justice.
WHERE IS THE OUTRAGED COMMUNITY FROM DEL NORTE COUNTY?
AFTER having a gun put to his head, verbally threatened, robbed of his expensive, legal gun and coin collections, and beaten to unconsciousness by several sheriff’s DEPUTIES this law abiding, unarmed, cooperative, taxpaying citizen REGAINS CONSCIOUSNESS IN JAIL AND IS DENIED MEDICAL HELP OR A PHONE CALL!
    WHERE IS THE OUTRAGED COMMUNITY?
WHERE IS THE TRIPLICATE WHO HAS NEVER MISSED AN OPPORTUNITY TO DRAG ANYBODIES NAME THROUGH THE MUD, GUILTY OR NOT of the charges? DID I MISS THE TRIPLICATES HEADLINE ABOUT THE IGNOMINIOUS SHERIFFS DEPUTIES SEARCH FOR THE PHANTOM STOLEN PISTOL THAT REMAINS “MISSING” AND THE UNCONSCIOUSNESS “THIEF” JAILED WHILE WAITING TO BE CHARGED FOR ?? SOMETHING?
    WHERE IS THE OUTRAGED COMMUNITY?
IS THERE NOBODY FROM THE CITY COUNCIL OR B OF S WHO FEELS THAT THEIR JOB MIGHT INCLUDE THEIR INTERVENTION TO PROTECT CITIZENS FROM THE ON GOING TERROR AND TRAUMA OF PREMEDITATED ASSAULTS FORCED UPON THEIR CONSTITUENT? UNTIL THE ATTORNEY GENERAL TAKES ACTION TO REMOVE THE SOURCE OF THE ACTS OF RETALIATION I WILL CONTINUE TO FEEL TERRORIZED LIVING IN DEL NORTE COUNTY. Mr. Egan, I hope there is some type of relief and peace of mind for you, soon. I think what happened to you is beyond horrifying.

  3. Some rogue cop probably has it stashed to get someone who filed a punlic complaint on him with an untraceable weapon. I put nothing past some of them these days. The NRA get together should be just the ticket to get some gun nuts fired up and ready to roll on a quest to eliminate opposition to their brand of current injustice. Law enforcement that chooses to not respond to calls, or uses illegal methods are no different than any run of the line law breaker. In fact, they are worse as they are in violation of the oath to serve and protect. Just kidding on this. Why would they do that when they could just give some crazy meth heads free passes to deal drugs and have them take care of those people they don’t want around. These are days of dupliicity. So whose holding the unlocated gun?. So many choices on that question!

  4. An incredible yet sad commentary on the (former ?) state of affairs in Del Norte. Kudos to all who have contributed to the story. If I understand the circumstances correctly The County has probably spent between 250-500 thousand dollars to falsely prosecute Mr. Egan (they gave up with the exonerated charges) and attempt to defend the actions of Brady cops and a REMOVED district attorney ? A normal county would have investigated and brought to justice those that are paid to protect us…not rob us of our personal property. Since this civil suit is still unsettled that means the county is still paying hundreds of dollars per hour to defend the indefensible. At what point will the county admit that the ‘bad apples’ engineered this whole episode under false pretenses apologize and settle ? The fact that all those people named have been removed, replaced or have quit speaks volumes to this case.

I look forward to part 5: Blackhawk Case Settlement

  5. As far as i knew, they didn’t have body cameras when they illegally entered the home of Mr. Egan. They might have had a camcorder, but not body cameras.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Defense_Authorization_Act_for_Fiscal_Year_2012

Perhaps the sheriffs department did nothing wrong in not charging Mr. Egan with a crime as they beat him unconscious, threw him in jail, denied him medical help, denied him a phone call, did not tell him his Miranda rights.
Out sheriffs department may simply be protecting our nation. Sometimes the law must be broken for the protection of our National Security.
The new National Security Act is certainly in conflict with the Bill of Rights! What’s a citizen to do?
We know where “The People” stand in Del Norte County.

      1. Anonymous,

The fact that the Del Norte County Taxpayers, (via the Board of Supervisors) have spent (wasted)the last two years and perhaps around 400,000 $ trying to prosecute Mr. Egan (and lost)while they defend themselves against a civil rights lawsuit is enough to convince me that the DNSD most certainly “did something wrong” The taxpayers are still to this day spending several hundred dollars per hour to defend the indefensible.
