By Donna Westfall – May 29, 2017 – Services at the IOOF Cemetary (also known as Crescent City Cemetary, Masonic Cemetary and Veterans Cemetary) commenced with the playing of TAPS and it was hard to find a dry eye or someone without a lump in their throat. After quick speeches by Roger Gitlin and Bob Berkowitz, a pot luck lunch was available to all vets and their families at the Veteran’s Memorial Hall located on H Street.
Supervisor Bob Berkowitz, veteran of the Navy, attended with friend, Bonnie Brown. Cassie Simonsen wore her T-shirt “United States Navy Grandma,” and Ron Rooney and Doug Westfall, are Army vets.
The food was delicious. An array of salads including shrimp cocktail, fantastic beans, potato and macaroni salad, chicken wings, meat balls, melt in your mouth rolls with cold cuts of ham and chicken. And then the desserts were plentiful including “lemon lush” which was downright sinful.
