One of the greatest movies ever made, according to film afficionados and industry experts, is Citizen Kane starring Orson Welles. The great supposed mystery was what Kane meant when he spoke of “rosebud”. After watching the movie, I couldn’t understand why it was a mystery. I know I wrote about this in a past column but the current political nonsense shows how history repeats itself incessantly and demands clear thought to analyze the obvious.
Rosebud was Kane’s sled from when he was a child and living in a rural setting. It was a symbol of his carefree and pure youth before he became defiled by mining riches, private schools, and elitism engendered by his societal associations. The film had a factual basis in the life of William Randolph Hearst, the newspaper magnate, who became one of the wealthiest men in America. One of the sayings attributed to him was “if there isn’t any news, you make the news”. Fake news is nothing new.
We have a new mystery to dissect. It involves the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. All of the conservative pundits are focused on the accusations and allegations of Christine Blasey Ford who claims that Kavanaugh attempted to rape her at a party when he was 17 and she was 15. Ford initially didn’t want to be identified but sent a letter to her representative in California who then forwarded it to Diane Feinstein in July.
When Feinstein was asked why she held the letter back until just before the vote of the Judiciary Committee was to take place, her response was:
Ms. Feinstein came in for particular criticism from Republicans who took shots at her for withholding the information about Dr. Blasey until last week. “If they believe Judge Kavanaugh’s accuser, why didn’t they surface this information earlier so that he could be questioned about it?” Mr. McConnell asked. “And if they didn’t believe her and chose to withhold the information, why did they decide at the 11th hour to release it?”
Ms. Katz (Blasey’s attorney) said Ms. Feinstein withheld the letter because she was respecting Dr. Blasey’s wishes to remain private. Ultimately, after rumors of the letter circulated on Capitol Hill, and she was confronted by Democratic colleagues on the Judiciary Committee, Ms. Feinstein referred the letter to the F.B.I. Asked why she had waited so long, the senator hesitated.
“I don’t know; I’ll have to look back and see,” Ms. Feinstein told reporters, before ducking into the Senate chamber. When she emerged, she said, “The answer is that she asked that it be confidential.”
Also according to the New York Times, which got it wrong, the letter was sent to Feinstein. From the Washington Post, “A registered Democrat who has made small contributions to political organizations, she contacted her congresswoman, Democrat Anna G. Eshoo, around the same time. In late July, she sent a letter via Eshoo’s office to Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee.” The letter was sent to Eshoo but neither of these biased agenda driven newspapers could state the fact.
While the above is a pertinent question, anyone with a little common sense and basic information provided by the leaders of the Democrat party can quickly figure out exactly why Feinstein waited to the last minute. This was done to Clarence Thomas by bringing out Anita Hill to accuse him of similar transgressions. It is in their playbook. What most miss is that the Dems quite clearly have been demanding that this vote on Kavanaugh be postponed until after the election. This is a stalling tactic and because of buffoon Republicans, such as Jeff Flake, it will work.
The Democrat leaders do not want another Trump conservative, even a weak one, on the Supreme Court. Their plot to destroy the United States through the destruction and judicial rewriting of the Constitution has been enunciated by many. The Dems greatest hope is to take over the House of Representatives so they can start the (baseless) impeachment proceedings for which they called immediately after Trump’s election. Al Green of Texas was the first to call for it.
If the Dems can further muddle up the process, they figure that there is a good chance, thanks to the Fake News pollsters and their phony polls, of taking the Senate and the House. With control of the House, no one nominated by Trump will make it to a vote of the Senate. If they control the Senate, then no one no matter how well qualified will pass muster. It is too bad the Republicans don’t play ball this same way. Again, very few of our elected representatives can see past the party initial behind their name or understand this is about being a constitutional conservative rather than attempting to change America into a socialist slave camp.
I will diverge for a brief interlude on the re-emergence of the big O on the campaign trail. It is he who wanted to “fundamentally transform America”. As a lot of his handiwork has been dismantled, much to his chagrin, he is now out lying to the American public much as he did when in office. We didn’t get to keep our doctors, we weren’t better off after eight years of his economic illiteracy, and our Nation was not respected or at least our government was not.
The Republicans running during this election need to thank Obama for reminding the people why the voters gave the House to the Republicans, then the Senate, and finally the Presidency. Can you say “FAILURE”? Now we are going to give up on success?
The Dems want their “crumbs” back. You know the capital gains tax that some of us benefitted directly from and some of got raises or new jobs from corporations who saw their taxes reduced. They also want unemployment for minorities to go back up so their “victims” can remain as such.
Obama’s audacity knows no bounds as the same man who told us we would never see an above 4% GDP growth rate now claims it is because of economic policies he put in place. I wish he would tell us how he did that while claiming that Republicans stopped him from doing everything under the sun. Remember, Barack, “you didn’t build that … someone else did”. In this case, you had nothing to do with it at all.
Getting back to the subject at hand, have we all forgotten Judge Roy Moore of Alabama who was running for Jeff Sessions’ senate seat just a year ago? The Dems used exactly the same tactic of having some woman accuse Moore of sexual advances which happened years ago. Why didn’t these women come out with complaints either when they occurred or during confirmation hearings on either Moore or Kavanaugh when they were being confirmed as a State Supreme Court justice or an appeals court judge? Simple, the stakes are higher, the Democrats want control, and thanks to the proven emotion driven voter, they put a lesser candidate into office.
I happened to see that Sean Penn made a comment that the Me Too movement is about dividing men and women. It is absolutely that and much more. It is about vigilantism or a throw back to the French Revolution. “J’accuse”, meaning I accuse in French, was all that was needed to send a person to the guillotine. Are we all that stupid and senile that we can’t see that none of the allegations brought forward against anyone can be proven. Unless you are as dumb as Al Franken and have someone take photos of you acting like you are going to grope a female colleague.
I am not saying that all accusations are lies. Neither Brett Kavanaugh or Roy Moore were Harvey Weinsteins. The point is the truth matters less than giving power to women, women who won’t be happy until a traditional paternalistic society has been made maternal. If these women were Amazons I might not have a problem with it. Debilitating society and the military makes any society ripe for a takeover from within or without.
Listening to Michael Savage, his bet is Kavanaugh will fail like Bork and his nomination will be withdrawn. I would agree with him that Kavanaugh is at best a moderate middle of the road conservative not unlike Anthony Kennedy who he would replace. The woman who Trump would nominate is Amy Coney Barrett. She is far more conservative, has seven children of whom two are adopted, is a practicing Roman Catholic and would be the far Left’s worst nightmare akin to real constitutional conservatives dislike for Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
My only worry is this won’t get done before the election. As for the continuing reality TV show brought on by the Democrats, they own it. They own the Russian conspiracy and collusion bologna while refusing to acknowledge Obama’s interference into the Israeli election of Benjamin Netanyahu or the funding of the fake dossier to get a FISA warrant to spy on the Trump campaign. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. And no that isn’t a racist comment.
What I want you to think about is what we did in our youth as we were growing up and the hormones began to rage. I recall one of my high school classmates telling me how he enjoyed wrestling with his neighbor who was a cheerleader. Groping and grinding. I suppose none of us “played doctor” either, saying I will show you mine if you show me yours.
How exactly did Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge get intoxicated at 17? Where were the parents? As this was a private school, where were the adults who ran the facility? And what is next?
I am waiting for the accusation “well I didn’t like the way he was looking at me” or “he brushed up against me and I think it was inappropriate”. Is it really all about control? Why is it that these same young women don’t mind going to France or Italy and having their rears “goosed”? Given the degrading acts in the pornography industry, or in music videos, to which women subject themselves, I have a hard time taking these allegations as anything other than what they are.
Destroying someone’s life and reputation either for fifteen minutes of fame or because of your contrary political beliefs speaks volumes about your character. Couple that with doubling as a clinical psychologist leads me to an old phrase.
