It’s National Spaghetti Day and some restaurants across the nation are offering free spaghetti dinners to patrons for such things as buy a drink, get a plate of spaghetti for free; or buy one get one free, or purchase a plate of spaghetti at Apsaalooke Nights Casino in Crow Agency, Montana, and get a free $5 play…… not so in Del Norte County. There are NO spaghetti deals and one question is WHY NOT?
Local, Karen Harner, posted on Del Norte County local news and events Facebook page the background of spaghetti highlighting such things as spaghetti has been around for centuries. There are records in the Jerusalem Talmud of itrium, a kind of boiled dough, commonly available in Palestine from the 3rd to 5th centuries AD.
While most people associate spaghetti with Italian food, the Chinese and Japanese have been eating noodles for far longer. The earliest written record of noodles is from a book dated way back to the Chinese Han dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD).
So, excuse me as I put on a pot of water to boil. Tonight’s main dish is angel hair pasta with sauteed garlic, onions and chicken in a spaghetti red sauce; sprinkled and topped with Parmesan cheese and freshly cut parsley from my garden.
