I spoke with Roy Jackson this morning. He’s the Housing and Services Manager at Health and Human Services. He let me know the Point in Time homeless count will be taking place this Wednesday, January 25th at the Crescent City Recreation Hall, located at 1005 H Street, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

I asked Roy if they needed any help and he said they have they have plenty of volunteers this year to help with the count, handing out food and supplies, but if anybody wants to stop by, they should.

How does our government define homelessness: ““lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, and if they sleep in a shelter designated for temporary living accommodations or in places not designated for human habitation.”

That includes sleeping in one’s car, living in emergency shelters or transitional shelters.

With inflation affecting the costs of everything, it’s getting harder for individuals and families to make ends meet. The Covid pandemic certainly didn’t help matters.

  1. A graphic illustration of the more time and money government invests in an issue, the greater in scale the issue becomes. Government in this particular case has grown the problem rather than any possible measure of success in solving it, or for that matter, reducing it. Nothing like the refusal to learn from historical experience. Congratulations to City and County governments for another in a solid string of failures.
